All MALA member libraries can access our members and partners in eight states. MALA’s Get Connected courier delivery service connects libraries in Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Texas, New Mexico, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and parts of Wyoming. Connecting to our network partners requires special labeling. Please see the instructions on this page to share ILL resources with libraries in extended service areas.
The courier service in Missouri is supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the Missouri State Library, a division of the Office of the Secretary of State. The Missouri LSTA funding pays for one to three days per week service between the Missouri Public Libraries.

Interlibrary Loan
As in any cooperative venture, the success of MALA’s interlibrary loan courier delivery service is highly dependent on the goodwill and cooperative spirit of the participants.
For this reason, it is most important that members do not impose unnecessarily on the staff time of other members. Such imposition can be eliminated by the prompt return of borrowed materials, the maintenance of accurate records of each library’s own transactions, and careful attention to the accuracy of requests submitted.

Reciprocal Borrowing
The Mid-America Library Alliance supports and encourages reciprocal borrowing from all of our members. The collaboration and sharing of MALA members has created a strong library foundation. All libraries joining MALA are expected to provide reciprocal borrowing for all other MALA members. A library may “opt out” of reciprocal borrowing. If a library chooses to “opt out,” libraries in MALA are not expected to loan to this library at no charge.
